Yamata no Orochi is already taken by Orochimaru. Tengu is already taken by Susano'o. So that leaves Phoenix, Dragon, and Tiger like creatures.

If you look at the cleaner scans of 10-tails it appears to have wings, so i'm going to rule out Tiger. So I'm going to say a Dragon or a Phoenix type creature, but i'd say Phoenix is the most likely since it fits the Uchiha's connection to birds motif.
you know, I think you are right... It should be the phoenix then because wasn't dragon taken by Kabuto too? We already have a Tiger Biijuu... I am simply sayin this because there are too many beasts to start repeating any in this story... yeah?

    +rep by the way ^_^

People seem to forget humans are animals. I guess you can't get a complete image of the system when you yourself are in the system as well.

If it represents anything, its a one eyed venusaur. I know what you mean, but honestly thats the only thing that monster looks like after it turns into the tree or whatnot. The chained 9 eyed half human tree being though..not sure what animal that represents lol

The Juubi represents a tree, not an animal. Any other version of the Juubi, all though it may look like a beast, is just the the deformed, incomplete version of itself. /end thread.

The squid and cyclops theories sound plausible. Perhaps it is an amalgamation of several animals. It is after all the combined form of the bijuus even though it existed before they did.

When I first saw the Juubi however, the shell on its back and it's slithery, lovecraftish form immediately reminded me of a snail and when you think about it, it kind of fits. It was originally depicted as the god tree that forged the land but in this form went on a rampage and became chaotic. Snails are primordial, terrestrial parasites that feed off the land and plants to survive and build their shells and in the end, the Shinju did devour everyone's chakra.

You could probably also compare it to an ent as well since it appears to have wood properties and was originally a tree.

Going by Kuramas words the Juubi is the progenitor of all life on the planet and the beggining of chakra. Not even Madara knows why only once in a millenium a fruit would appear on the God Tree/Juubi.
To me it all ties up. JUUBI is the first life form that appeared on the planet, the source of chakra and natural energy. When the first life forms were created Juubi/God Tree realised that they would come into conflict and that from time to time a new species must be created to keep the world in check.
After monitoring how life evolves the God tree would acumulate chakra every once in a millenium in the form of a fruit. When the fruit is ripe it gives birth to a new species that keeps the others in check.
Knowing that the princess Kaguya wanted to break the cicle of endless wars the God tree created and eat the fruit in order to gain power herself to stop the wars.

I asume that the sage animals known in the narutoverse were one of the first species spawned from the Juubi and they were likely most special because of their conection to nature. At first might have bein spawned the Frog then some time later the Snake was spawned to balance out the Frog and the Slug balanced the Snake.
Then came all other sentient living beings like humans,animals....etc

In conclusion I think that the God tree fruit was never meant to be consumed in the first place. Its the evolutionary mechanism of the Juubi/God tree. When the fruit becomes ripe it gives birth to a new life form that balances other life forms on the planet.
Knowing this Kaguya wanted to prevent the destruction of man kind so she consumed the fruit.

EDIT: Sage Bijuu's likely could control chakra before humans. Kaguya was said to be the first human with chakra but the sage bijuu's aren't human nor they are ordinary animals.

I've heard people say it represents a rabbit and they quoted mythology. It was reasonably convincing, but obviously it doesn't truly resemble any animal.
