NB is in danger!

I think its time we had a serious talk here. The overall quality of this site has been at a steady decline for some time now. I'm not saying this because I want to complain, or because I dislike people here, I don't. But I just remember the site being much friendlier and an overall better quality when I joined.

All one has to do is look at the RP Battle section. Its literally a flame war between two groups. Why is this allowed to go on? Anyone looking through the forums is going to see a harsh environment.

As for the Naruto section, the same threads are coming up over and over again, and it always ends up in flaming and personal insults over whether Sasuke is cool or not.

The bleach section is dead....although I might blame Kubo for that more than anything else.


All I'm saying is that I think the leniency of Mods against spammers and flamers is beginning to take a serious toll. Its turning into an almost purely hostile environment and serious discussions are disappearing.

Before someone comes along saying "if you don't like it leave" save your breath. I really enjoy these forums, its my daily dose of Naruto that I need. I just want to keep it from disappearing, and certain issues are becoming serious threats.

I won't say anything about the rp, but as for the bolded part in your post.

We are not being lenient towards spammers and flamers. We infract/warn/ban when we see a post/thread that breaks any of the forum rules. But the majority of these posts you talk about do not get reported and we mods can't be watching every single post in every single thread in every single section. It's impossible. Don't forget, we do have lives outside Nb - and we can't be watching Nb 24/7.

If you do happen to see a duplicate thread - report it or contact a moderator by vm/pm we'll deal with it.

Also, we're always open to suggestions -that's why this section was created- if you get an idea or find something for anything on the forum that you'll think will benefit the community - tell us, we want to know.

What would be the typical punishment for this behavior? ~Hayashi~ states at the end that Mods have stopped handing out infractions. I'm not entirely sure what an infraction is, but from how it sounds it sounds like a slap on the wrist. Why not increase the punishment? Obviously saying something like "**** you bitch your life is a failure so I guess someone should excuse your life." - Crutch Kaguya" should not be acceptable behavior. I see people use abusive language towards other members all the time, yet theres no visible punishment. People see this and know they can get away with it, so they do it too.

I think the solution to the problem would be harsher punishments. You don't have to get everyone who does it, but when you catch someone, why not give them a temporary ban? Like a 24-hour ban sort of thing, and then if they get caught again increase the length to like a week. After that, hit them with the 3-strikes law and ban them for life. If someone sees someone get banned for flaming and stuff of that sort, they'll think twice before they flame someone as well.

My ideas might be a little overly harsh, I'm just throwing ideas out there.

another 3 warnings for the flammer then ban IP.

they already have a system like this O_o

and the reason they stopped giving us infractions is b/c we used a reverse psychology on them and started enjoying infractions now they are doing the same thing tto us by not giving us infractions

If the infractions eventually led to IP bans I don't think the reverse psychology would be so much fun.

That thread should of been reported then the mods in charge of that section would of done what was required.

Hasashi is wrong, we have not stopped giving out infractions -we just stopped giving it to them since they actually want them.- But don't worry, i'm sure the admins have something in store for them. ^^

And i see nothing wrong with the current infraction-warning-ban punishments. It's up to the admins if they want to change the system.

well i have a suggestion........
you can make a few committe like anti-spam, anti-explicits, promting friendships, etc. select few users in that according to some competition or just by his nature on NB or anything better you can think...this will not only control spams & all but also make users feel like NB is there own

It is very good to see a serious suggestion like this one.
You have some good points there and i can only agree with you.

The mods aren't lenient towards members, it is that members come up with new ways to spam and flame everyday. And as Lawliet said, when posts or vms don't get reported, there's pretty much nothing we can do about it.

However, a stricter system might solve this, also a harsher "cleaning" of some threads.

i agree with all of you
and i have some suggestions :
1- new punishments, like no avatar or sig for a week or 5 making threads limit for spammers per day or even posts doesn't count for a week for the low posts spammers that works as an warning as well.
2. make a red point appear next to each posts that has infraction or warning so that others see that the poster got a punishment that he/she deserves
3. make a group of reporters that reports any spam/flam that they find, but they must be active and with experiences over nb.

things like that are easy to do i believe

3: The groups is all the members of the base as a whole.

well detention is rare to be used and much harsher then i was talking about, when the mods infrect someone for a post a red point appear next to the quote icon, but you don't see anyone report everything, do u ?

Detention is used when the situation suits it.
There is no need for you or any other member to see what posts have been infracted, it's only for the staff so we have a record of it.
Yes, we do see all reports, every single one.

the battle arena needs wars to keep it going but members continuously disagree in battles which is a flaw but a war is not harsh in my opinion otherwise you lose the fun

I agree that wars can make it more fun, but whats going on right now has gotten out of hand. People don't have to be verbally attacking each other for a war to be fun.

1) That situation in the BA is just the manifestation of old vs new. The RP-system had an incredible boost some while back which resulted in a lot of new rp-ers. The result was that there were continuously arguments between the new and the old players. That situation just reached a high-point there. To explain all that is quite complicated.

2) Hasashi and Crutch just want to have infractions and it has no effect when we give them, so we just stop. However it would be pretty naive of them to actually think that we will just let it slide.

3) None of the mods are lenient, but what I also notice is that a lot of people just expect of us that we know instantly when someone breaks a rule. There are days we don't receive a single report, while when we search the forum there should have been a dozen.

Though I admit the forum is quite a bit to "restless" these last few weeks.
